Celebrate the apple harvest with apple picking, fresh cider, apple pie contests, and hayrides. Families can enjoy live music, a petting zoo, and plenty of apple-themed treats.

Harvest Fest at Randall’s Island

Date: September 30, 2024 | Time: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Location: Randall’s Island Park, NYC
This free festival includes pumpkin painting, crafts, live entertainment, and a farm stand with local produce. The whole family can enjoy games, arts and crafts, and outdoor fun.

New Jersey

Apple Picking at Alstede Farms

Date: Ongoing throughout September | Time: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Location: Alstede Farms, Chester, NJ
Families can pick their own apples at this charming farm. There are also hayrides, a corn maze, a petting zoo, and a farm store offering fresh pies and cider.

Battleview Orchards Apple Picking

Date: Ongoing throughout September | Time: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Location: Battleview Orchards, Freehold, NJ
Enjoy apple picking with your family at this popular orchard. Be sure to stop by the farm market for fresh-baked goods, homemade cider, and more!

Fall Family Fun Weekends at Demarest Farms

Date: Every weekend in September | Time: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Location: Demarest Farms, Hillsdale, NJ
In addition to apple picking, this farm offers hayrides, a corn maze, and pumpkin picking. Kids can also enjoy a playground and farm animals.

Recipe of the Month: Quick & Easy Habanero Chicken Tacos

For busy parents looking to put a delicious dinner on the table in under 30 minutes, this recipe is a game changer. Packed with flavor, a hint of spice, and perfect for the whole family!

Habanero Chicken Tacos

Serves: 4 | Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

2 chicken breasts (thinly sliced)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon chili powder
½ teaspoon cumin
1 tablespoon Chef Nigel’s Habanero Hot Sauce (adjust to taste)
8 small tortillas (flour or corn)
1 cup shredded lettuce
1 cup diced tomatoes
½ cup shredded cheese
Sour cream and guacamole (optional)

Instructions:

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through.
Sprinkle the chili powder and cumin over the chicken, then stir in Chef Nigel’s Habanero Hot Sauce. Toss to coat the chicken evenly in the spices and sauce.
Warm the tortillas in a pan or microwave.
Assemble the tacos by layering the chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese in each tortilla. Add sour cream or guacamole if desired.
Serve immediately and enjoy a flavorful, spicy meal that comes together in no time!
